Chloe
The Vet called to say they found the cause of Chloe’s illness. She has secondary viremia Feline Leukemia Virus. The vet said Chloe has a white blood cell count of one - the lowest that she’s ever seen, and does not expect her to recover.
Chloe is going to the Rainbow Bridge.
She tested negative as a kitten (possibly because she wasn’t producing antibodies yet). I never thought to have her re-tested. She had an occasional goopy eye but it always cleared up on its own. No other health problems until now.
I feel very guilty for not bringing her to the vet earlier. Guilty for not paying close attention to the warning signs. Chloe’s health rapidly declined from Sunday night to Tuesday night. Chloe is very shy and kept to herself more than Icon and Katie. She had been hiding in the closet or behind the sofa all weekend – I didn’t think her absence was cause for immediate alarm. I was wrong.
I miss her already.
Icon and Katie will be re-tested for Feline Leukemia Virus on Thursday.

Oah My God…..
I am so sorry!!!! /_\
Oah My God…….
I am sending my prayers to Chloe, and lots of purr for you,
Oah God….
I am so sorry. Do feel free to email my human if you need to. She had a lovely kitten come in who tested negative and then was positive. It was a devastating piece of news.
Cats can and do hide their sicknesses from us. It is not our way to ask for help from others. Please do not beat yourself up for not finding this sooner. Chloe doesn’t blame you.
The symptoms you could see were minor and well those would have made her a bit quieter than normal. You couldn’t know unless you looking a lot harder than the average owner and you had no reason to believe you would have to.
Felv is like that–it hides and then something happens. In the vet clinic where the Woman worked she used to hate that diagnosis more than anything. She had been through it and so she hated to see owners basically beating their heads against the wall just in case something would work for the cat but mostly they just prolonged their grief. Once symptoms show, it can be very hard to get them back to health–although many would hang on and seem like they were rallying.
Purrs during this hard time. We will be gone today, but back late tonight. The email offer does truly stand.

This is Gaius’ Mom. I am so so sorry to hear the news. She will be well and playing in fields of catnip and kitty grass without pain or sickness.
I know it is easy to say not to feel bad, it’s human to feel bad and with all loss there is always the what-ifs. It would be strange if we didn’t question ourselves, questioning helps us move through it and in time you will realize that you are not at fault, not one bit. You provided her with love and nurturing, that is the best thing you could have done for her. Sickness is awful and it has a will of its own that is beyond the control of any of us.
Do take the time to be sad, find comfort in those (both humans and furpersons) who are around you and who love you. Don’t forget that they will likely be looking to you for solace and comfort as well. Remember the beautiful time that you had with her on this Earth and take comfort that you will see her again and that no matter the end of thing, the one thing that will not change is the love.
*hugs*
~Kelly
Oh, we’re so sorry to hear this! Please know that we’ll be praying and purring for Chloe. Please love your beans–I’m sure they love you!

Oh we are so very sorry to hear this. We will be purraying and tail thumping for all of you.
We are so sorry to hear about Chloe, we are sending headbutts and purrayers your way.
We’re so sorry to hear about Chloe. Our mombean gets very sad when she hears about sick kitties. It’s wonderful that Chloe had such a nice home with you. She sure looked like she was having fun in that video. We’re sending purrs and snuggles your way.
I am so sorry to hear about Chloe. She is so beautiful. I hope that you all are doing okay.
Oh dang, I am so sorry
Please don’t feel bad about not getting her retested. If the vet didn’t tel you to and you didn’t think of it, then it was supposed to happen that way. Because maybe not knowing bought Chloe more happy time, time where you just enjoyed her instead of worrying about every little thing about her.
I feel so bad for you and for icon… this sucks.
I just don’t know what to say… I’m sure that you’ve given Chloe all the love and care that everycat needs over her life, and that’s a wonderful thing. Purrs to you all!
Oh, I don’t know what to say, either.
Our thoughts & prayers go out to you & Chloe and your family.
Like everyone else, we are so sorry to hear this very sad news. Poor Chloe. We don’t know what you could have gained by having her retested; please don’t beat yourself up about that. She’s a fortunate cat in that she’s had such a loving home with you. We’re purring for you all.
Love,
J&B and their Mom
We are furry sorry to hear the news about Chloe…she had a very loving and happy home with you and we will continue to hold you in our thoughts and purrayers….
Purrs and head butts to you alls. (I can’ts think of anythings other than thats to say, I’m sorry.)
Oh, we’re very very sorry to hear this horribly sad news. We’ll just reiterate what everybody else has said. FeLV is very fast acting once they get the symptoms. Try not to beat yourself up about not recognizing it. It’s normal for cats to go into hiding when they are ill.
We sincerely hope that Icon and Katie test negative today.
